I remember when I first told my sister that I had started the low-fat raw vegan diet. We were chatting on the phone when I started explaining this new lifestyle. I had barely begun when she jumped in, "Wait. You're on a diet within a diet?" She giggled at me and at that moment it sunk in just how ridiculous this diet can seem if you are used to eating a completely different way. But for me, it seems like common sense that we should all be eating this low-fat raw vegan diet.
I know that humans are intelligent and can make tools if needed, but if you think for a moment about what you might eat if you were out in nature with nothing except what you are equipped with at birth, you will soon realize the diet you were intended to consume. Personally, I wouldn't be chasing down wild animals and trying to eat them, or milk them for that matter! (That really would be an interesting sight - milking a wild animal.) If I didn't already know there were carrots and other root vegetables underground I would never go digging in search for them because right within an arm's reach would be beautiful and deliciously tantalizing fruit. I am certain that if you entertain this imagining at all you will arrive at the same conclusion that I did.
Not only does it make sense to our senses, but also physiologically. We are designed to eat fruit and greens and little else. Meat and dairy do a number on our digestive systems, taking so long to digest that it and any other foods you eat them with become fermented and spoiled inside of you. This, as you can imagine, creates a large number of problems for your body. Grains, although preferred to meat and dairy, are still not ideal foods for our bodies. Their type of fiber is very rough on our digestive systems causing small tears as it passes through. Our entire system, including our brains, runs on simple sugars. Fruit is full of healthy simple sugars that hardly take any digestion when ripened fully.
You may be wondering now, if it makes so much sense and is so great for our bodies, just what in the heck do you eat on this diet? Fruits and greens and that's it?! Yep, fruits and greens and if you'd like you can throw in some nuts and seeds, but not very many. So my days end up looking a little something like this:
Breakfast: Smoothie made with 10 very ripe bananas and 1 cup water.
Lunch: Smoothie made with one type of fruit, bananas, dates, and water. I specifically love strawberries right now. Or sometimes I make a green smoothie with 1 head of romaine lettuce, bananas, and water.
Dinner: A large salad with a low-fat dressing, veggie wraps, or more fruit.
Snack: I like to snack on the fruits I don't normally add to smoothies if I get hungry in between meals, like apples, pears, kiwi, etc. Dates are also a favorite snack of mine, they are almost like candy to me now.
There are many benefits to eating this way. A very short list includes healthy weight loss, ultimate health and vitality, increased energy and athleticism, and helping to make you the most beautiful person you can be. The best way to discover all the benefits of this diet is to jump in it yourself - you will not be disappointed!
